PROFILE - Ballet Folklorico Flores del Desierto

Flores del Desierto, a folklorico dance company in
the High Desert, was established 20 years ago under the artistic
direction of Irma Aguilar. Students from 4 years to senior adults
are taught at the Multi-Cultural Dance Center in Hesperia. Students
are taught steps and choreography to dances, in addition to the
history of those dances. They learn about the region from which the
dances originated, the mixing of cultures that developed them, and
the significance of the costumes, props and music. When students
leave, they have a better understanding of Mexico and its rich
cultural heritage. Students, whether Mexican, Mexican American or
from other countries of origin, also enjoy an appreciation and pride
in their own cultural as well as other cultures. Productions have
been presented at many southland locations including the Los Angeles
County Fair, San Bernardino County Fair, National Orange Show with
Freddie Fender, the Roy Rogers-Dale Evans Happy Trails Organization,
Fontana’s Fiesta de Las Americas, Victor Valley College, numerous
school festivals, grand openings, charity fundraisers, weddings and
quinceaneras. Annual productions are Dia de los Muertos and Cinco de
Mayo at Victor Valley College. Dia de Los Muertos is also presented
at the Sturges Performing Arts Center in San Bernardino. For more
